Why am I seeing strange sender ID like rUpdate, rNotify, Infodesk?
When you send bulk SMS with a particular sender ID, your message will be delivered to your recipients with the sender you specified except on MTN DND lines that receive the massage with a different sender ID such as rUpdate, rNotify, or Infodesk. MTN DND lines are just a fraction of the total MTN lines among your recipient numbers. Numbers subscribed to DND are not supposed to receive your message but we deliver to them. The only difference is that it delivers to MTN DND numbers with strange sender names.
What do you mean by DND?
The acronym DND means Do–Not–Disturb. DND Started in the Nigerian telecommunication industry since July 1, 2016. The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) gave all service providers directive to implement DND on their services to check incidence of excessive unsolicited SMSs and automated calls. With the enforcement of DND subscribers are given the freedom to opt out of receiving promotional messages for third party services such as bulk SMS and other value added services.
How Do I Deactivate my line from DND?
To opt out of DND, text the word “STOP” to the short code 2442 and then text “ALLOW” to the same 2442.
Why am I charged N3.50/ SMS for some numbers instead of my normal charges?
When you send bulk SMS to your recipients on our platform, our system redirects that of MTN DND for delivery at a surcharge. We charge N 3.50 / SMS flat rate for all MTN DND lines. However, you can choose not to send to DND numbers on your account and you will not be charged a dime for DND numbers. You have the option of removing your account from sending messages to DND numbers. To do that, login to your account, click “account”, go to “profile” and change “DND surcharge” to “false”.
How Do I resolve the issue of strange sender ID such as rNotify, rUpdate, or Infodesk
To avoid strange sender ID like rUpdate, Infodesk or rNotify, we will have to register one or two sender IDs with MTN Nigeria for you. Please note that we can only register sender IDs for our corporate customers who have bought or used minimum of N20,000 credits on our platform in the last one year. Our corporate clients are those whose companies are registered with Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria (CAC). If your account falls into this category, please email us a copy of your company CAC certificate for us to begin the sender ID registration process.
When I sent a message yesterday I saw my balance but today my balance has gone down. Why?
Please be aware that after you send SMS on our platform, more charges will be applied to your balance due to DND surcharge. To see the actual cost of your message check delivery report after an hour or more of sending the message.
